2008 May 21 - Advanced search for ReleMed
ReleMed now has "Advanced search". It is a way to enter more detailed specifics about your query, and narrow down search results. You can access the advanced search on ReleMed home-page, as well as any result-page. Click the plus sign [+] on the left side of the term "Advanced search", and a section with green background will expand.
The advanced search has about 20 different subsections for different fields and limits. When you use these subsections to specify your query in more detail, ReleMed will automatically formulate the final query and show it in the result-page, where it can be edited further manually. In other words all such "advanced" search capabilities are accessible via the main search box of ReleMed; However, the graphical interface of the Advanced search section should make it easier to use such features.
The Advanced search section has a few "orange text boxes". These are for fast information retrieval. For example, the Journals subsection, you can enter abbreviated name of a journal to tell ReleMed to retrieve articles published only in that journal. However, there are over 10,000 journals. To assist you to remember the abbreviated name of the journal you intend, you can enter a few words from journal's name in the orange text box in the journal subsection, and ReleMed will show you top 5 best matches. The abbreviated names are in bold, where you can copy&paste, or just simply retype in the journal search box.
Please let us know if you would like to see any other fields/limits added to the ReleMed's Advanced search section, webmaster@relemed.com. -

2007 December 27 - Editable ATM section
The ATM section at top of the ReleMed results page, "[+] Check the translations for query...", is now editable.
In the ATM "[+] Check the translations for query ..." section, you will find checkboxes in front of every translation that ReleMed applied to your query. You can uncheck the ones you don't want, and resubmit your query using the submit button inside the section. It is good you try different combinations of translations; and for majority of users ReleMed is already using the optimal translations.
The checkboxes of the different translations are arranged in a hierarchy, where the highest level is "Translations done:". If you uncheck the "Translations done:", all the translation will be omitted. Below this root level, there are potentially about 6 branches (depending on your query), in the second level of hierarchy. Under each of the second-level branches, there are up to 2 additional levels of branching. Therefore there are up to 4 levels of branching in the ATM section. Try a query like 'cold aspirin anti infective agents' to see all the possible branches.
When you uncheck a box, ReleMed will treat all the boxes underneath it as unchecked, even if you don't uncheck them one by one. On the other hand, if you check a box without its higher-order box being checked, ReleMed does not consider it to be checked. -
2007 November 26 - Improved retrieval performance
A new version of ReleMed is going to be released by end of this month. The main improvements are in the backend algorithms, such that retrieval performance of ReleMed is boosted. This means you should be able to find more relevant articles faster.
We have expanded "automatic term mapping" (ATM) where it takes the query you submitted and adds synonyms and related terms, to make it more sensitive (retrieve more articles). You may notice this when you click on the "Check the translations for query ..." at top of the results page. This section will become "editable" in December. This means after ReleMed mapped your query to its related terms, you can customize it and resubmit. The ATM now includes "MeSH Explode" when applicable.
In the results page, the query words that you submitted are highlighted in the articles using color red. ReleMed highlights all instances of the query words in the article; however the ones that ReleMed thinks are directly related to your query are red and bold; thus ReleMed is using two shades of red for highlighting.
A new case study will be published in December, detailing the enhancements explained above.
Please tell us what you think of this new release, webmaster@relemed.com. In particular we like to hear from you about:- Any query that you tried where count of results in ReleMed is less than PubMed;
- Any query that you tried where ReleMed results are not as relevant as you expected;
- Any query that you tried where ReleMed responds slowly;
